Theory about Avatars

Um, hi. I'm new to the boards--I just recently found Avatar fanfiction after about two years of HP fics. I'm also active on other site where one of my favorite things to do is make up "wild and crazy theories" about what is happening, could happen, or maybe should have happened.

So that's what I'm here to do.

This is a theory I've been screaming at my husband every time we see Katara do something simply spectacular.

Katara should be the Avatar.

Now, hold one before you close the thread in disgust, and let me explaing my theory. I'm not saying that Aang SHOULDN'T be the Avatar, so much as he should STILL be the Avatar.

We've seen quite clearly the the World of Avatar is heavily influenced by Asian culture, and reincarnation is a plot hook they deal heavily with. We *know* the Avatar, the essence of greatness that can manipulate all four elements is forever being reborn into the next nation in the cycle so that the land may ever know peace. Borrowing a concept from book series, one could look at the lives off all of these people as threads in a great tapastry weaving, making a pattern that they can't seem to understand. The great threads, threads that could be the Avatar (as we don't know what qualifies a person to be Avatar, excatly) may stand out somehow, and each nation has several people at any one time that *could* be the Avatar--which begs the question: When the old Avatar dies, does that "Avatarness" decend upon a new born child, or onto a young child about to enter puberty?

Now, Aang discovered he was the Avatar ONE HUNDRED years ago, when he was ten. Had he stayed at the temple and learned and lived his life as one usually does, ie, by not entering a stasis for one hundred years, then he would have died at a ripe old age....probably about when Katara was born or a very young child. After all, the Water nation is next in the cycle. Who is the most powerful Water Bender that we know? Who MASTERED waterbending before she's really old enough to be married? KATARA, THAT'S WHO!

(Sorry, she's totally one of my favorite characters.)

Now, should Aang have died in the raid on his Air Temple home (which happened shortly after he ran away), we would have need of a different Water-nation Avatar. I think the Master in the North who trained Katara- the one who loved her Gran-Gran, I forget his name- would have been a pretty good choice for Avatar.

hey ya i agree with u... she prolly wulda been a new born... hmmmm good point good point good point. IF aang were to die wuld it pass on to katara? probably.. but i dont think aang's gunna die.. since its a kids show and all. but if this was made for adults.. id jump right in with that.. heh. . cuz say aang dies.. and katara becomes teh avatar.. shell prolly go immediately into the avatar state. and aang wuld prolly guide her thru it wuldnt he? like avatar roku does for him? i think it makes sense. .specaily since they wuldnt bring in an important character like another avatar in the last season.

but one thing.. im pretty sure it goes to a newborn child. in one of aangs flashbacks he picks the toys of former avatars right? newho. i wanna think of a crazy theory! so give me some time yall.

You have a pretty good point, though I'm unsure of the relevance it has to the show currently. I think Katara would've been a good Avatar, and the age thing makes sense. Had Aang not disappeared or died with his people, the Water Tribe would've been next when he finally did die and Katara would've been about the right age, but she would've never met Aang and the name of the show would've had to change. But if Aang had stayed and survived the attack on the Air Nomads, he would've already reached his full potential less than halfway through the war and possibly taken out Fire Lord Azulon, who actually seems less evil than Ozai. Then the show would be pointless unless it followed Aang and there's just a big loop of an explanation I could go into for that. ;D

Ok, true, it has nothing really to do with the show in its current incarnation.

It's probably just me watching after too much tequlia. Or chocolate, you know. I make up theories about many things. (IE, human genetics and magic use, and...well, those theories are all WoT, and that can get...complicated.)

Possibly...If Katara and Zuko had a child, (or like, seven) and one of those children could waterbend...future avatar? Yes?

Heck yes! That's actually how one of my fanfiction stories ends. Aang died and Katara and Zuko had twins and both were the Avatar. I wonder if that could happen cuz that'd be neat..

That would be intresting, for sure. The only people Katara should ever hook up with is Zuko or Ang, so if Ang dies then naturaly, I'd love to see that happen.

Now, if only the show wasn't supposed to last 3 seasons. *grumbles under breath* I really hope they do the rumored 4th season so we can possibly see the next Avatar because, as much as I love Aang to death, I think he's going to die at the end of the series in the final battle. I hope Katara has the next Avatar (with Zuko!).

That would be great. But it would still be Aang. Cause the soul of the avatar remains the same, it just goes through different cycles of birth and death.

Hey, yeah! That'd be really neat. Aang would be the one to teach her kid to be the Avatar and that'd be awesome!

LOL Yeah, becaus he seems to be able to project himself in past lives so he can obtain more information. Like with avatar Ryoko. that was him in a past life guding his present self. Prety amazing, in my opinion.

Indeed, indeed. He'd be all like "Tell your mom I said hey!" lol. That'd be funny. ;D I could see that happening.

Me too. And tell your dad(If it's Zuko) Umm.,... wait, nevermind. Tell your dad nothing... or thanks for teaching me firebending (if he comes around soon enough though right now it looks like Iroh might be teacing Aang that)

"Tell your great-uncle thanks for teaching me!" LOL! That would be so neat if Zuko and Katara had the next Avatar. I would die. ;D I really hope they continue the show beyond the original storyline. I'd like to see what happens after the war is over.

Me too. I kind of think they shoukld make at least 4 books and then maybe even have a sequel series.

but i think that the creators of avatar didn't think that way...

we should make our own storie!
